Field Trip: Rockledge High Band - Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

The Rockledge High Music Program including approximately 35 students, one teacher, a string consultant and two (2) registered chaperones will travel on Travel Lynx busses to Atlanta, Georgia on March 24-27, 2011 to watch the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in concert.  While in Atlanta participants will stay at the Marriott Atlanta N.W.  Two school days will be missed and students will plan ahead and get the necessary makeup work.  Students will have the opportunity to watch the orchestra in their rehearsal, have a master class with the conductor and section leaders, and watch them perform in concert.  Each student will write a two page paper on the performance and what they learned.  When not at the performance the students will tour different sites in Atlanta, which include:  Stone Mountain, The World of Coca-Cola, and Six Flags over Georgia.  The schedule for this trip allows the group to return on Sunday evening giving students the full week of spring break to spend with their families.  The cost of the trip will be $435.00.  Students will do fund raisers to help offset the cost.  No student will be denied to participate due to funds.  There will be planned meetings for participants to insure all parents are fully informed about trip details.  There will be no cost to the district.

Approve the request for approximately 35 Rockledge High music students, one teacher, a string consultant and two registered chaperones (1 male and 1 female) to attend an orchestra concert performed by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in Atlanta, Georgia on March 24-27, 2011.  Students will miss two (2) days of school.
