Field Trip: Cocoa High School FIRST Robotics Team - FIRST Smoky Mountain Regional in Knoxville, TN & FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, MO
The Robotics Team is planning to attend the FIRST Smoky Mountain Regional in Knoxville, Tennessee. The four adult chaperones are both male and female, including one current Brevard Public Schools employee, and three engineer mentors from NASA Launch Services/Analex Corporation, who are either properly fingerprinted with the district or currently in the process of being fingerprinted. The team will travel by School Board approved rental vans. The team will be staying at a FIRST authorized hotel closest to the event. Students will either walk or take the rental vans to/from the hotel and the Knoxville CC/Coliseum.
The Robotics team also plans to attend the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri. The team will travel by air leaving from the Orlando International Airport and then use public transportation to travel to/from the hotel. The team will be staying at a FIRST authorized hotel closest to the event. Students will be either walking or taking public transportation from the hotel to the Edward Jones Dome.
Both trips will be funded by various fundraisers and business partners including Analex Corporation, NASA Launch Services, Brevard Public Schools and Gov. Connection. Student expenses are being covered and no student will be left behind due to inability to pay. THERE WILL BE NO COST TO THE DISTRICT.
Approve request for the Cocoa High Robotics Team, approximately 15-20 students and four chaperones, to attend the FIRST Smoky Mountain Regional in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 29 - April 3, 2011. The students will not miss any school due to the event being held during Spring break.
Approve the request for the Cocoa High Robotics Team, approximately 15-20 students and four chaperones, to attend the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri on April 26 – May 1, 2011. The students will miss four (4) days of school.
