Agenda Item #32
Central Middle School Trip to "America Sings" Chorus Festival in Washington, D.C.
The Central Middle School Advanced Chorus is requesting approval to attend the "America Sings" 20th Anniversary Performance and Community Service Projects Program in Washington, D.C. from Friday, April 17, through Sunday, April 19, 2009. "America Sings" is an opportunity for students to perform musically, to perform acts of community service, both here and in Washington, D.C., and to visit and learn about the historic treasures of our nation's capitol. Central Middle School had very successful trips to "America Sings" in 2005 and 2007.
Approximately 38 students and nine chaperones plan to participate in the trip. The cost of $856 per student and chaperone includes all hotel accommodations, transportation (both air and motor coach), meals, sight-seeing tours, and registration for "America Sings." Students have set up plans to earn funds for their travel accounts using choral department fundraisers, volunteerism, babysitting, lawn mowing and sponsors. Currently most students have accumulated between $250 and $300 toward the cost of their trip. There will be no cost to the District.
One day of school (Friday, April 17) will be missed.
Approve the request for the Central Middle School Advanced Chorus to attend the "America Sings" 20th Anniversary Performance and Community Service Projects Program in Washington, D.C. from Friday, April 17, through Sunday, April 19, 2009.
