Contract with The 95 Percent Group
The purpose of this contract is to continue with the next phase of professional development begun by Dr. Susan Hall and The 95% Group in 2006. Professional development will be provided at eleven Title I schools: Mims, Palm Bay Elementary, Imagine School of West Melbourne (formerly River's Edge), Cambridge, Coquina, Riverview, Riviera, University Park, Turner, and MILA. The district Title I and Elementary Programs Offices have collaborated on providing these services and training for schools identified for Corrective Action or Restructuring under NCLB. (MILA is not currently identified for improvement but is in its third year of the training.) Eight of the eleven schools have begun the training process with The 95 Percent Group and fall within Phases I - III of implementation. Dr. Hall's goal is to assist schools with building capacity to sustain their process for providing early reading intervention. Through the use of on-line training modules and school- and grade-level-specific web conferencing sessions, schools can continue to improve their implementation and train new hires. Three Phase IV schools (University Park, Palm Bay Elementary and Coquina) have been identified to begin the training during the 2008-09 school year. Dr. Susan Hall and Dr. Diane Merkel will also provide one day of administrator walk-through training, which will focus on the effectiveness of implementation, best practices, and data analysis. Reading coaches will receive one day of training on the importance of utilizing instructional routines during intervention instruction. The cost of the contract is $82,885 including all materials, on-line access and consultant travel. The effectiveness of the training will be evaluated by FCAT subgroup scores in reading and by participant feedback.
Dr. Hall's vita is on file. A copy of the complete contract may be obtained from the Title I Office. This contract directly impacts the following district Strategic Plan goal: 2.1.1 - Implement a K-12 comprehensive improvement program for every student scoring below grade level and decrease the achievement gap between minority and majority students on FCAT reading and math.
