Agenda Item #48
Contract for 11th Grade Students to see 1776 at the King Center
On April 20, 21, 23, and 24, 2009, eleventh grade students will experience a quality musical theater production at the King Center for the Performing Arts. The Cocoa Village Playhouse will produce and perform 1776. Last year's performances of 1776 provided a powerful and moving experience for our juniors, connecting our shared history. The curriculum fit naturally into lessons before and after the performances. Our goal is to provide the same quality experience for our current juniors as we provided last year. Additional evening performances will be presented and made available to Brevard Public School employees on Monday, April 20, and Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Last year's experience created a sense of community awareness and involved community members and businesses donating their time, money, and expertise. We appreciate the community commitment to the students in Brevard Public Schools.
Estimated costs include:
King Center $40,000
Sign Language Interpreter $ 800
Brevard Public Schools Bussing $ 5,000
Total Estimated Costs $45,800
We are confident that we will be able to obtain community sponsors and/or use Pepsi revenues to cover all expenses for this event. No district funds will be spent. Last year's student performances cost $62,500. The King Center Board of Directors and the Cocoa Village Playhouse are committed to this project and have authorized financial support to significantly reduce the rate for this year's performances.
Approve the contract for 11th grade students to see 1776 at the King Center for Performing Arts on April 20, 21, 23, and 24, 2009.
