Field Trip - Viera High Winter Guard - Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, OH
The Viera High School Winter Guard is planning to attend the Winter Guard International World Championships at the Dayton Convention Center in Dayton, OH from April 9-14, 2013. The trip will require students to miss three days of school (Wed., April 10 – Fri., April 12). The 12 member unit will be chaperoned by 5 adults. Four (4) chaperones are current Brevard Public School employees and one (1) team consultant who is a fingerprinted consultant with the district.
The team will travel by Travelynx charter bus, departing after school on April 9th. The cost of the charter bus ($7500.00) will be split with the Robinson High School Indoor Guard (Tampa, FL), lowering the cost to $3750.00. Chaperones from Hillsborough County are background checked through their non-profit agency SERVE (http://serve.mysdhc.org/).
The team will be staying at the Dayton Grand Hotel, which is the closest hotel to the event (and provides a free breakfast). Travel to Dayton will commence after school on Tuesday, April 9. While in Dayton, the bus will be used to travel to/from competition and rehearsal. The trip home will begin on Saturday evening, with the students returning home by early Sunday afternoon on April 14.
The trip will be funded by various fundraisers and business partners. Students will be responsible for the costs of their food. Over $3000 has already been raised towards the cost of the trip.
Approve the request for the Viera High School Winter Guard Team, approximately 12 students and five chaperones, to attend the Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, OH from April 9-14, 2013. The students will miss three (3) school days.
