Field Trip - Rockledge High, Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High, Viera High Schools FIRST Robotics to the FIRST Boston Regional in Boston, MA and FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, MO
The Robotics "Pink" Team consisting of approximately 50 students and six chaperones is planning to attend the FIRST Boston Regional in Boston, MA on March 21-25, 2012 and the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, MO on April 25-29, 2012. The six adult chaperones, both male and female, are all properly fingerprinted with the district: one (1) current BPS employee, three (3) engineer mentors from NASA, one (1) retired technician, and one (1) parent/mentor.
The team will leave from Orlando International Airport, will travel by air to Logan Airport in Boston and then use public transportation (Metro/EL) to travel to and from the competition. The team will be staying at a FIRST authorized hotel closest to the event. Students will take a walking tour of Boston University and downtown Boston. Students will miss three (3) days of school.
The team will travel by air to St. Louis, MO April 25-29 for the FIRST World Championship provided they qualify. The event will be held at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. The team will be staying at a FIRST authorized hotel closest to the event. Students will either walk or take public transportation from the hotel to the Edward Jones Dome. Students will miss three (3) days of school.
The trips will be funded by various fundraisers and business partners including Analex Corporation, NASA Launch Services, Brevard Public Schools and GovConnection. THERE WILL BE NO COST TO THE DISTRICT.
Approve the request for the PINK Team, approximately 50 students and six chaperones, to attend both the FIRST Boston Regional in Boston, MA on March 21-25, 2012 and the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, MO on April 25-29, 2012.
