Jackson Middle School Quest Program Field Trip to Washington, DC

Discussion
Jackson Middle School Quest program is requesting approval to travel to Washington, DC during Spring Break March 26 through March 30, 2011.  This field trip will focus on cross-curricular extension studies, with an emphasis on history, science, and reading.  They will focus on helping students develop the attitudes and skills needed to be informed and engaged citizens.  Students will be exposed to monuments, historical landmarks and documents, and science in the making.  Forty (40) students, two (2) teachers and ten (10) fingerprinted registered parent chaperones will be on this field trip.  Students will travel by charter bus provided by Travel Lynx, Inc. Cost per student is estimated at $270.00 each.  Students have been conducting fundraising activities from September to March to defray individual student costs.  No student will be denied for financial reasons. 

Recommendation
Approve Jackson Middle School Quest program field trip to Washington, DC, March 26-30, 2011.
