Field Trip: Edgewood J/S HS, Merritt Island High, and Jefferson Middle School Robotics Team #801 FIRST Championships in Atlanta, GA

Discussion
Robotics Team #801, consisting of approximately 25 students from Edgewood Jr./Sr. High, Merritt Island High and Jefferson Middle School, will compete in the FIRST Robotics Championships at the Georgia dome and World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA.  There are six (6) registered/fingerprinted chaperones, both male and female, including the teacher sponsor along with numerous family members making the trip.  Students will be traveling to Atlanta by commercial airlines or private cars approved by the district.  Upon arrival in Atlanta, transportation will be on the MARTA public transit system.  They will travel on Wed., April 14, compete Thurs. through Sat., April 15-17, and return on Sun., April 18.  The team will stay at the Country Inn and Suites in Atlanta.  The $5000 registration/entry fee has been paid by sponsors and fundraising.  Student meals and MARTA expenses will be covered by student fundraising since last year and a number of sponsors.  Whatever expenses cannot be covered by fundraising or sponsor funds will be covered by the individual student.  All students have indicated the ability to pay, however no student will be left behind for failure to pay.  There will be no cost to the district.    

Recommendation
Approve the request for the Edgewood Jr./Sr. High, Merritt Island High and Jefferson Middle School Robotics Team #801, approximately 25 students, one teacher and five chaperones, to attend the FIRST Robotics Championships at the Georgia dome and World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia April 14-18, 2010.  Three (3) school days will be missed.
