Satellite High School AF JROTC Students to Fly Aboard USAF HC-130 Aircraft at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida
Satellite High School is requesting approval for 18 AF JROTC students to fly abroad the USAF HC-130 (fixed-wing aircraft) at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, on March 16, 2010. Educational objectives include: Orientation to aeronautic, aviation equipment and careers, and airborne navigation. Students and two chaperones will be transported from Satellite High School to Patrick Air Force Base via school bus. Students will receive a pre-flight briefing describing the nomenclature, history and mission of the HC-130 as well as safety procedures and equipment. Next, they will board the aircraft for a 30-minute flight around the Melbourne/Cape Canaveral area. Students will have lunch at the Patrick Dining Hall and then return to Satellite High School via school bus. The entire trip is funded by the United States Air Force, and there is no cost to the district.
