Student Fees for Driver Education Program

Discussion

On July 15, 2008, the Board approved an increase of the student fees for the driver education program.  This increase in fees was to be phased in over three school years, beginning with an increase from $40 to $60 for school year 2008-2009, $80 in 2009-2010, and $100 in 2010-2011.  Principals were authorized to approve a fee waiver within appropriate guidelines.  These funds are used for the purchase and maintenance of vehicles, fuel, tags, the issuance of driver's licenses, and related materials and supplies for the driver education lab activities.  The current student fee for driver education in summer without credit is $120 per student.  Based on the driver education fees collected in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 (thus far), as well as assistance from the Slosberg Funds, it is recommended that the student fee for driver education remain at $80 for the 2010-2011 school year and not be raised to $100 per student.  The summer fee will remain at $120 per student.



Recommendation

Approve maintaining the driver education student fees at $80 for the 2010-2011 school year.
