Field Trip -- Satellite High School Wind Ensemble Performance in Oxford, Mississippi, February 24-27, 2010
In August 2009, the Satellite High School Wind Ensemble auditioned, via audio tape, to perform at the College Band Director's National Association/National Band Association Conference in Oxford, Mississippi on February 24-27, 2010 and, as a result, were selected by the National Band Association Committee. The wind ensemble group will leave at 6:00 a.m. on February 24, 2010 and will return on February 27, 2010 at 11:00 p.m. Students will miss three days of school. The group consists of 52 wind ensemble students (28 males and 24 females) and six fingerprinted chaperones (three males and three females), two band instructors and one band parent. They will travel via a district-approved charter bus company. Lodging will be at the Downtown Oxford Inn and Suites, 400 North Lamar Blvd., Oxford, Mississippi (Ph: 662-234-3031).
Below is a breakdown of costs associated with the trip:
Charter Bus Cost - $4,700
Hotel Costs - $94 per room + tax - Quad Rooms - 20 rooms x 3 nights - $6,147.60
Meal Allowance - $37.50 per day per person + gratuity x 61 people - $10,980
Total Trip Cost - $21,827.60 divided between 52 students = $419.76 per student. (Students will also purchase a Wind Ensemble Fleece Jacket @ $28.00 each , bringing the total cost per student to $447.76.)
Fundraisers have occurred all school year to enable all students to participate. If students participated in all scheduled fundraisers they were able to offset the entire cost of the trip. No student will be excluded from attending because of lack of ability to pay. The Music Department Booster Club, SIMPA, is coordinating all arrangements. There will be no expenses to Satellite High School or the district.
