Attendance boundary changes are recommended to lower student membership at three schools that are currently over 100% capacity (more students than capacity) by moving students from those schools to schools with adequate available capacity.  In total, attendance boundaries could be changed at up to 15 schools, depending on the Options that are approved. 

Over-crowding at Manatee, Suntree and Williams will be relieved by attendance boundary changes at these three schools and, potentially, at the following 12 schools:  Andersen, Cambridge, Creel, Croton, Endeavour, Golfview, Longleaf, Mila, Quest, Saturn, Sea Park and Sherwood.  

The Central Area Elementary Schools have been broken into two sections - North and South.  Three Options are proposed for the North section and four Options are proposed for the South section.  The Board must select one Option for each section.  Any Option can be selected for a section without affecting the other section.  

North Section

Assumptions:

1. All North Options for the Central Area Elementary Schools assume the end of "cap and bus" restrictions for students previously "capped and bused" from Manatee to Quest.
2. All Options for the Central Area Elementary Schools are based on the end of "soft redistricting" at Anderson, Longleaf, Manatee, Mila, Quest, Suntree and Williams.  At their meeting on 1/19/10, the Board approved the end of "soft redistricting" exceptions at all schools redistricted on 3/25/08 for the 2008/09 school year (Agenda Item #44).  All "grandfathered" students and their siblings will attend the "new" school beginning with the 2010-11 school year.  If the student lives in an area of the "new" school attendance boundary that is redistricted to another school, the student will attend the other school. 

Note:  Proposed attendance boundary changes for the Central Area Elementary Schools were included in an Information Agenda Item at the 11/17/09 School Board meeting and in an Action Agenda Item at the 12/8/09 School Board meeting.  The Public Hearing for these proposed changes were advertised and scheduled for the 1/19/10 School Board meeting.  At the direction of the School Board at the School Board Workshop on 1/5/10, the proposed changes for the Central Area Elementary Schools were removed from the Public Hearing on 1/19/09 and this Information Agenda Item was created to discuss new proposals. The Public Hearing for these proposed changes will be held on 2/9/10.  

Hold a Public Hearing and approve the recommended attendance boundary changes with the recommended conditions at the following schools for the 2010-11 school year: 

Anderson, Cambridge, Creel, Croton, Endeavour, Golfview, Longleaf, Manatee, Mila, Quest, Saturn, Sea Park, Sherwood, Suntree and Williams.  

Recommended Attendance Boundary Changes: North Option 2 and South Option 1

Recommended Conditions:

1. Rising sixth graders may stay at their current school.  Transportation will not be provided.
2. No sibling preference for rising sixth graders.
3. End 'cap and bus" restrictions at Quest.  Students currently bused to Quest from Manatee return to Manatee.  If the student lives in an area of the Manatee attendance boundary that is redistricted to another school, the student will attend the other school.
