02-09-2016 Regular School Board Meeting
Agenda Item #22

Title
Media Course Codes (K-5)

Discussion

Currently the Florida Department of Education does not provide a course that reflects instructional practices in our media centers for  K-5 students.  Six courses were designed as a framework for the K-5 Library Media Instructional Program for submission to the DOE upon Board approval.  These courses will allow the media specialist to design and implement instruction that meets the literacy needs of our K-5 students while in the library media center.  The state has provided a course code that reflects the needs of 6th grade students, but not K-5.

Recommendation

Approve the submission to the Florida Department of Education  for approval of six new courses that reflect the instructional practices in our media centers for our K-5 students.
