Agenda Item #37
School Recognition Bonuses
Past experience indicates that a significant portion of the School Recognition funds will be expended on bonuses for employees. It is the intent that this agenda item will provide authorization for the qualifying schools to pay employee bonus amounts, which have been determined jointly by their respective SAC (School Advisory Councils) and staff members. Approval of this agenda item authorizes Human Resources to set up the bonuses for payment, based on the decision made at each of the qualifying schools. This process, as in the past, alleviates individual schools from having to generate separate board agenda items. This does not eliminate the obligation of the schools to provide detail information to both Human Resources and Budgeting. Approval of this item will allow for payment of bonuses to occur at the earliest possible date. As in the past, the School Board will be kept informed as to the planned expenditures of the total funds.
Unfortunately, a listing of the qualifying schools, along with their respective award amounts, cannot be determined at this time due to the High School grade appeal process. The total award amount incorporated into this item is from the 2013-14 Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP) Third Calculation and will be updated once the final information is available from the State. Be aware that the amount listed below is the maximum amount that will be used for employee bonuses, as most schools are also using a portion of their allocation for supplies. Attached find the estimated award amount for each of the 44 qualifying schools.
The District has been told that information concerning the actual amount of the awards should be available from the State prior to the February 25, 2014 Board Meeting. If so, the listing of the qualifying schools, along with their respective award amounts, will be updated and provided as part of the Consent Agenda item for the February 25, 2014 Board Meeting.
Authorize bonuses to be paid to staff members of qualifying schools that will be receiving School Recognition funds based on their respective school grade for 2012-13.
