Agenda Item #28
F-18. Contracted Service Agreement Golfview Elementary Magnet School for Sharon Ketts, Northeast Foundation for Children: Responsive Classroom
The foundation will provide staff development training for thirty PreK-6 classroom teachers in the Responsive Classroom Reform Model. Mrs. Sharon Ketts is a certified consultant representing the Northeast Foundation for Children/Responsive Classroom who will present a one day update-staff development on the Responsive Classroom principles and strategies to classroom teachers at Golfview. The Responsive Classroom Reform Model is the foundation for Golfview’s magnet. It addresses core principles of character development that allows students to make appropriate choices regarding their behavior and academic development. Its approach to teaching and learning fosters safe, challenging, and joyful classrooms and schools through an enriched social curriculum. The research led by Dr. Sara E. Rimm-Kaufman and funded by the DuBarry Foundation, found that the Responsive Classroom approach is associated with better academics and social outcomes of elementary school children. The source of funding is the Federal Reform Magnet Grant. Follow-up activities will include daily immersion of Responsive Classroom principles into academic and social activities at Golfview, academic choice, rules and logical consequences, building community, and parent involvement. The effectiveness of this program will be measured by meeting the goals of the magnet and by improving FCAT scores and AYP status.
