H-13. Consultant Agreement: Gardendale Elementary - Forney Educational, Inc.
Melissa Forney is a recognized writing consultant, who has proven techniques to enhance and expand student writing ability. This has resulted in increased FCAT writing scores throughout our district. This workshop is intended to expand our teachers' ability to provide a higher quality of writing instruction.
Teaching the emergent writer requires specific strategies geared toward children who are learning to put thoughts on paper for the first time. Melissa Forney presents new strategies of teaching writing that involve all learning styles, geared toward helping any writers achieve success. These include Vocabulators, Chunking Your Word Wall, Panoramas, Alphabet Kangaroo Pouches and teaching to individual learning styles.
NCLB legislation requires that schools spend additional monies to improve their FCAT and AYP status. The source of funding is School Improvement Council funds. Follow-up activities will include incorporation of strategies gained from the professional development activities into teachers’ lesson planning as well as utilization of the key to writing strategies within each K-2 classroom. Writing scores on the District writing prompts will be used to measure the effectiveness of the consultant’s work with teachers.
