Safety to Life Improvements at Apollo Elementary School

Discussion

Means of egress at Apollo Elementary School do not meet Florida Building Code and Florida Fire Prevention Code / NFPA 101 Life Safety Code requirements for fire separation and/or flame spread ratings. 

Heard Construction has submitted a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) under their Continuing Contract for Design/Build Services in the amount of $48,486.10 to provide the improvements necessary to bring the egress paths into compliance with the Florida School Evaluation System pursuant to the provisions of Florida Administrative Code Rule 69A-58.009.

Adequate funding has been identified and budgeted in the FY2012-13 Safety to Life capital funds for a total Project Cost of $60,000 which includes the proposed GMP, administration, permitting, inspections and contingency costs  

Board approval is required for a Purchase Order over $25,000.  In order to expedite this work, approval is requested as a Consent Agenda item without previous information.

Recommendation

Approve the Safety to Life Improvements project at Apollo Elementary School for a project cost not to exceed $60,000.

Approve Heard Construction, Inc. as the Design/Builder for this project under their Continuing Contract for Design/Build Services for a GMP of $48,486.10.
