Palm Bay High School Robotics Trip to Lyon, France


The Palm Bay High School PiraTech VEX Robotics Competition Team is requesting School Board approval to participate in the International VEX Robotics Competitions in Lyon, France, on March 16-24, 2013.  The students have been invited to compete in the French National Robotics Competitions to be held on March 20-21 during the European Robot Summit Innorobo.

Eight students and four chaperones plan to depart Orlando on American Air on Saturday, March 16, and arrive in Lyon, France, on Sunday, March 17. The group will stay at the B&B Hotel Centre Monplaisir in Lyon, France.  The group will return home on Sunday, March 24.  Five days of school (March 18-22) will be missed.

The cost per student is $1,456.25.  Students will pay $400 of this cost plus provide funds to cover their individual meals.  The remainder of the cost will be covered by fundraisers and corporate sponsorships/grants from AT&T, Harris Corporation, Brevard Public Schools, Gov't Systems and the Able Trust.  The Office of Risk Management is assisting the Palm Bay High School robotics team to obtain appropriate international liability insurance.  There will be no cost to the District.

If Palm Bay High School proceeds with the trip to France, they will cancel their plan to participate in the 2013 VEX Robotics High School World Championship in Anaheim, California, on April 16-21, 2013.

Approve the Palm Bay High School request for students to participate in the International VEX Robotics Competitions in Lyon, France, on March 16-24, 2013.
