SPECIAL MEETING The School Board of Brevard County, Florida met in special session on Monday, February 28, 2011, at the Educational Services Facility, 2700 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Viera, Florida. Notice of the meeting was advertised in the Florida Today newspaper on Monday, February 22, 2011. The affidavit of publication with a copy of the ad attached is filed in the Affidavit File in the Board Office.

Minutes: 

Chairman Murray reminded the public that there is a maximum allotted time of three minutes per speaker set aside for discussion.  She also stated that the Board would not respond to the comments or concerns this evening but the Superintendent will investigate them and respond in a timely manner.

1. Janet Eastman, BFT, Rockledge - Ratification of the 2010-2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Ms. Eastman stated that BFT went to a 3rd party voting vendor this year to ensure confidentiality and autonomy. She noted that as an independent third party, the TRUSTe privacy seals assure election administrators and voters that ballots and election results are safeguarded, and voter records are protected from disclosure and inappropriate access. This is to certify that double voting is not possible on the Brevard Federation of Teacher voting site as well as BFT's robust security configuration and architecture which prevents double voting.

Ms. Eastman stated that she received a letter at 12:30 p.m. from Shelja Purohit, Vice President of Votenet Solutions. The letter stated it was to serve as written communication of the results of the Brevard 2011 Amendment Vote. The results are as follows and a copy of the letter is attached:

Vote: Yes or No on the proposed contract agreement between the Brevard Federation of Teachers and the Brevard County School Board.

Yes Vote: 50.10 % (1710 votes)
No Vote: 49.90% (1703 votes)

Total Responses: 3413 votes
