Agenda Item #25
Florida Academic Literacy Network Project
The Florida Academic Literacy Network grant is a competitive grant designed to assist school districts in the implementation of two to four Literacy Design Collaborative Modules over a two year period in secondary classrooms. Schools will be selected on the basis of established need for improving reading and writing student performance. District resource teachers will work with identified middle and high schools to create and implement modules based on the literacy plan developed by the National Literacy Project. Grounded in research and best practice, the goal of the National Literacy Project is to address the implementation of Common Core State Standards across the content areas. Ultimately, this connection will lead to the improvement of students' reading and writing achievements. National Literacy Project partners will work with schools and district personnel to develop, implement, and monitor a unique literacy action plan designed specifically to meet the needs of Brevard students.
There is not a requirement for the local educational agency to match funds. Additionally, no personnel will be hired as a result of the grant award.
