Agenda Item #39
Notification of Intention to Terminate Imagine Schools at West Melbourne if the School Receives a "F" Grade for the 2011-2012 School Year
Pursuant to S. 1002.33(8)(a)(1), F.S., the sponsor may terminate a charter school for failure to meet the requirements for student performance stated in the charter. Florida Statutes require the Sponsor to notify Imagine's governing board of the proposed action in writing at least 90 days prior to terminating the charter contract. Therefore, the Board must take action to timely notify Imagine Schools at West Melbourne of its intent to terminate the charter contract, in the event, the charter school receives a "F" grade from the Florida Department of Education for the 2011-2012 school year.
Imagine Schools at West Melbourne received a "F" grade from the Florida Department of Education for the 2010-2011 school year. The charter contract with Brevard Public Schools has specific language in reference to terminating the charter contract for receiving two "F" grades. The recent modifications to the State's Accountability System will make it very challenging for Imagine to improve its school grade.
The letter of intent will be provided to the Board prior to the February 28, 2012 meeting.
Recommend that the Board provide Imagine Schools at West Melbourne the attached notice of intention to terminate the charter contract, in the event, the school receives a "F" grade from the Florida Department of Education for the 2011-2012 school year.
