Agenda Item #40
District Elementary Social Studies Instructional Materials Adoption
The Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) for social studies outline new expectations for the content students are expected to learn in social studies. At the current time, there is a disconnect between the instructional materials adopted in 2005 and the content of the NGSSS. The recommended instructional materials are aligned with the NGSSS and the content literacy standards that are part of the English/Language Arts Common Core State Standards. Teacher training in the use of the adopted instructional materials will be provided during the spring, summer, pre-planning, and on district in-service days.
Display of Adoption Materials: On February 28, 2012 from 4:30-8:00 p.m., Pearson and McGraw-Hill Education will display materials in Training Room 7 & 8 for the School Board and public viewing. District and publisher representatives will be on hand to answer questions pertaining to these programs.
