Palm Bay High School Robotics Trip to Anaheim, California
Palm Bay High School is requesting School Board approval to participate in the VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) World Championship in Anaheim, California, on April 19-21, 2012. Palm Bay High engineering students qualified for the National and World Championship by winning 1st place at the Miami VEX Robotics Competitions in December and winning the Excellence Award. Winning these awards is the only way to qualify for these events.
Thirteen students and five chaperones plan to travel to Anaheim, California, by American Air. They will leave Palm Bay at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012. The group will stay at the Paradise Pier Hotel in Anaheim. The competition will begin on Thursday, April 19, and continue through Saturday, April 21. The group will return to Palm Bay at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. Three days of school (April 18-20) will be missed.
The cost is $1,200 per student. Students will pay $250 of this cost plus provide funds to cover their individual meals. The remainder of the cost will be paid by High School/High Tech Grant, Brevard Schools Robotics, Harris Corporation, Northrop Grumman, Motorola, AT&T, and fundraising by the students. There will be no cost to the District.
