02-28-2012 Special School Board Meeting
Agenda Item #42

Title
District Secondary (Grades 9-12) Social Studies Instructional Materials Adoption

Discussion

A district-wide committee of teachers, administrators, and parents have reviewed and selected secondary social studies instructional materials for recommendation to the Board for use in Brevard Public Schools Grades 9-12.  These materials were reviewed by evaluating their alignment with the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as well as the requirements for the End of Course (EOC) exam in United States History.  Teacher training in the use of the adopted materials will be provided during the summer, pre-planning, and on district inservice days.  Updated curriculum guides, aligned with new course descriptions and instructional materials, will be developed and provided to all teachers of social studies.

Display of Adoption Materials:  On February 28, 2012, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., district and publisher representatives will display materials in Training Rooms 7 and 8 for the School Board and public viewing and will be on hand to answer questions pertaining to these programs.
