Palm Bay High School Robotics Trip to Omaha, Nebraska
Palm Bay High School is requesting School Board approval to participate in the VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) U.S. National Championship in Omaha, Nebraska, on March 15-17, 2012. Palm Bay High engineering students qualified for the National and World Championship by winning 1st place at the Miami VEX Robotics Competitions in December and winning the Excellence Award. Winning these awards is the only way to qualify for these events.
Sixteen students and five chaperones plan to travel to Omaha by American Air. They will leave Palm Bay at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. The group will stay at the Omaha Executive Inn. The competition will begin on Thursday, March 15, and continue through Saturday, March 17. The group will return to Palm Bay at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 18. Three days of school (March 14-16) will be missed.
The cost is $735 per student. Students will pay $300 of this cost plus provide funds to cover their individual meals. The remainder of the cost will be paid by High School/High Tech Grant, Brevard Schools Robotics, Harris Corporation, Northrop Grumman, Motorola, AT&T, and fundraising by the students. There will be no cost to the District.
