Agenda Item #11
Proclaim March 6-10, 2017 National School Breakfast Week
National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) is March 6-10, 2017, and schools throughout the country will be participating in a weeklong celebration of the School Breakfast Program. NSBW was launched in 1989 by the School Nutrition Association as a way to bring attention to breakfast, the most important meal of the day. The purpose of this proclamation is to raise awareness of the importance of eating a healthy breakfast. Statistics show that students who eat breakfast have improved attendance, better attention and memory, higher test scores, and fewer behavior issues. NSBW also affords us the opportunity to recognize the 600 food service employees that provide nutritious meals to our students daily.
The theme this year is “Take the School Breakfast Challenge”. Each Brevard County school cafeteria will promote NSBW by decorating their cafeterias with posters, balloons, and artwork highlighting their breakfast program. Managers will implement innovative activities such as coloring sheets, contests, dress-up days, and games to make their event interactive and fun. Managers will also partner with their school administration to promote NSBW during morning announcements.
Adopt a resolution proclaiming the week of March 6-10, 2017 as National School Breakfast Week.
