Agenda Item #34
Field Trip – Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School Band, Orchestra and Chorus to Atlanta, GA
The Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School Band, Orchestra and Chorus members plan to travel to Atlanta, Georgia, from Thursday, April 6, 2017, through Sunday, April 9, 2017, to attend the Southern Star Music Festival. This opportunity will give students a deeper knowledge of composer Rachmaninov’s life and music, the experience of attending a professional symphony concert and a greater understanding of the students’ own abilities and accomplishments as they receive verbal and written comments from adjudicators after their performance at the festival.
Up to 90 students are expected to participate and will be chaperoned by four (4) district employees and others that are currently A+ chaperones. Students and chaperones will be transported by Stylus Transportation and the group will be housed at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1501 Lake Heam Drive, Atlanta, GA.
Cost of the trip will be approximately $400 per person and includes all expenses except lunch and meals while traveling. Students have had opportunities to fundraise to offset the costs. There is no cost to the district.
Students will miss two (2) days of school (Thursday, April 6, and Friday, April 7) with a request to deem that as “excused absences.” A detailed itinerary is attached.
Approve the request for Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School Band, Orchestra, and Chorus members to travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to attend the Southern Star Music Festival from April 6 through April 9, 2017.
