Agenda Item #8

Title
Recognition of National Board Certified Teachers

Discussion
Brevard Public Schools currently has 746 National Board Certified Teachers, with 650 actively employed as of February 24, 2010 and 96 NBCTs retired or out of the district.  We rank tenth nation-wide among large districts in number of NBCTs.  With 13.5% of our eligible teachers now National Board Certified, we rank first in Florida among the ten largest districts and third in the nation among large districts in percentage NBCTs.  We have partially met our Strategic Plan goal to rank in the top five districts nationally for the number and percentage of National Board Certified Teachers by 2013.

Recommendation
Recognize the 27 Brevard County teachers who received National Board Certification in December 2009 known as the "NB Class of 2009."  Recognize the 6 Brevard County NBCTs who achieved renewal of their 10 year National Board Certification in 2009 known as the "NB Renewal Class of 2009."
