Palm Bay High School Robotics Trip to Atlanta, Georgia
Palm Bay High School is requesting School Board approval to participate in the International FIRST Robotics Competitions in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 14-18, 2010. Palm Bay engineering students participating with FIRST Robotics Competitions will compete in the international championship against the top teams around the world and all 50 U.S. states.
Twenty-five (25) students and four (4) adult chaperones plan to travel to Atlanta on a Vassas Tour Charter Bus. They will leave Palm Bay at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2010. The group will stay at the Marriott Suites in Norcross, Georgia. The FIRST Robotics activities will begin at the Georgia Dome on Thursday, April 15, and continue through Saturday, April 17. The group will depart Atlanta at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, and arrive at Palm Bay High School at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 18. Two days of school (April 15-16) will be missed.
The students have conducted fundraisers, car washes, and sponsored dances in conjunction with the City of Palm Bay to offset costs. In addition, the program has corporate sponsorships and grants from AT&T, Harris Corporation, Gov't Systems, and the Able Trust. The cost is $548.50 per student. Students will pay $100 of this cost plus provide funds to cover their individual meals. The remainder of the cost will be paid by the team account. There will be no cost to the District.
Approve the Palm Bay High School request for students to attend the International FIRST Robotics Competitions in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 14-18, 2010.
