Agenda Item #30
Elementary Mathematics Textbook Adoption
The Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) for kindergarten through sixth grade mathematics outline new expectations for the content students are expected to learn in mathematics. These new expectations will be reflected with changes in the mathematics state assessments as of the 2010-11 school year. At the current time, there is a disconnect between the instructional materials adopted in 2003 and the NGSSS that will be taught and assessed. The recommended textbooks are aligned with the NGSSS and Florida's state assessment program. Teacher training in the use of both textbooks and the ancillary materials will be provided during the spring, summer, pre-planning and on district inservice days.
Approve the adoption of Pearson Education, Inc., publishing as Scott Foresman, Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley enVisionMATH, Florida 2011 as the district unified Elementary Mathematics Program for all K-5 students.
Approve the adoption of Glencoe/McGraw-Hill Florida Math Connects Plus: Course 1, 2011 as the district unified Elementary Mathematics Program for all grade 6 students.
Schools will be provided implementation components for each teacher of grades K-6, including ESE teachers. Professional development on the use of these materials will also be provided.
