Bayside High School NJROTC Trip to Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.


Bayside High School NJROTC is requesting School Board approval to conduct a field trip to Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. on April 22-26, 2009.  This is an opportunity for cadets to tour Marine Corps Base Quantico, to include HMX-1 (President's helicopter squadron), Weapons Training Battalion, Night Integrated Training Environment Facility and the K9 Training Unit.  During the trip the cadets will tour the National Museum of the Marine Corps, and participate in tours of the Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, Smithsonian Institute, national monuments and museums in Washington, D.C.

Forty-four (44) Naval Science I, II, III, and IV cadets and five (5) adult chaperones plan to travel by charter bus, provided by Travel Lynx, Inc.  The group will be staying at the Crossroads Inn on MCB Quantico.

The group plans to leave Bayside High School at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, and return at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2009.  Two (2) school days will be missed (April 23 and 24).  The cost will be approximately $232 per cadet.  The cadets conducted fundraising activities during August-December 2008 to defer individual expenses.  There will be no cost to the District.

Approve the field trip request by Bayside High School NJROTC to travel to Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. on April 22-26, 2009.
