Head Start Refunding Application
Each year, the district must submit an application for continued refunding of the Head Start grant that was awarded to Brevard Public Schools in May 2012. The refunding application for the budget period 7/1/2015 - 6/30/16 is due on April 1, 2015. Final acceptance of the proposed application is pending Policy Council, School Board of Brevard County and Region IV Office of Head Start approval. School board members were provided an opportunity to provide input on the application prior to formal submission for approval.
The total amount of the grant for the new budget period is $4,726,783. This amount includes $54,081 earmarked by the Office of Head Start for training and technical assistance. Head Start funding provides program services for 624 preschool children. There is a local required match from state, local or other funding sources. The specific percentage of funds that must be contributed is 20% of the total approved cost of the project. The identified match will not create additional spending from local funds as this requirement will be satisfied through in-kind services and existing budgeted expenses that are not state or federally mandated.
