Agenda Item #9
Recognition of National Board Certified Teacher
National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) have achieved the only nationally recognized teaching standards for classroom teachers. Brevard Public Schools has recognized and supported over seven hundred fifty National Board Certified Teachers(NBCT) since the state NBCT program began over the past fifteen years; we earned second in the nation ranking in percentage NBCTs among large districts in 2011. A National Board Certified Teacher's certification is valid for a ten year period. When the ten year validity period comes to an end, NBCTs are eligible to renew their NBCT certificates by producing a second portfolio for review, paying a fee of $1,250, and submitting their portfolios for evaluation. No funds are currently available to assist with NBCT renewal fees. Also, there is currently no supplement available for successful NBCTs through the state or district for initial or renewal periods. At this time Brevard has one renewal for NBCT for 2014-2015. We celebrate his success and his dedication to the teaching profession tonight.
Recognize William H. Yoh Jr. as our National Board Certified Teacher for 2014-2015 renewal.
