Agenda Item #23
F-8. Approve the Proposed GED Testing Fee Increase
The GED Testing Office is requesting that the School Board of Brevard County raise the GED testing fees from the current $40 to $50 in a two-step process. We are requesting a $5.00 increase effective July 1, 2008 and an additional increase of $5.00 beginning July 1, 2009. The last time the fees were raised was in 1998 and since then the cost of testing materials, and operational costs to run the office and staff have increased. The counties around us -- Orange, Seminole, Lake, Volusia and Osceola-- have raised their fees to $50, so we would be in line with what is occurring in neighboring counties. This will bring us to the max that is allowed by the Florida DOE to charge for testing according to State Board Rule 6A-6.021.
This request is submitted in order to bring revenues of the GED Office more in line with expenses, which are currently being subsidized by other adult education funding sources.
Approve the proposed GED Testing Fee increase from the current $40 to $45 as of July 1, 2008, and to $50 as of July 1, 2009.
