03-11-2014 Regular School Board Meeting
Agenda Item #25

Title
Secondary Intensive Reading Instructional Materials Adoption

Discussion

District-wide committees of teachers, administrators, and parents have reviewed and selected Intensive Reading instructional/intervention materials for recommendation to the Board for use in Brevard Public Schools Grades 7-12.  These materials were reviewed, evaluating their alignment with Florida Standards for College and Career Readiness (FSCCR).  Teacher training in the use of the adopted materials will be provided during the summer, pre-planning, and on district inservice days.  Updated curriculum guides, aligned with new instructional/intervention materials, will be developed and provided to all Intensive Reading teachers.

The materials selected through this process will be used by schools for a period of five years.  Several of the recommended products have annual recurring costs for student print materials and computer licenses.  The total cost below includes all recurring expenses, eliminating future expenditures by the schools.

The Committee is recommending that the district adopt instructional/intervention materials on the attached list.

Recommendation
Approve the Intensive Reading instructional/intervention materials as recommended by the district adoption committee.
