03-14-2017 School Board Meeting
Agenda Item #23

Title
Elementary Music, K-12 Visual Arts, and Secondary Theatre Instructional Materials Adoption

Discussion
The Elementary Music, K-12 Visual Arts, and Secondary Theatre Selection Committees are comprised of teachers, administrators and parents.  After an extensive review of the available materials, the committee recommends that the Board approve this expenditure to ensure all classrooms have quality materials to support quality arts instruction.

In order to ensure a smooth transition to a new program, selected materials were also made available for public viewing on February 20, 2017, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., in the Board room.  If approved, per the new statute, ยง1006.28, FL Statute (2016), all instructional materials will also be digitally available for the 30-day public review process.  Schools will be provided implementation components for teachers of the courses listed on the attachment.

Recommendation

Approve the adoption of the instructional materials listed on the attachment for the district's elementary music, K-12 visual arts, and secondary theatre.  Approval of this agenda item will allow for expenditures up to $970,000.00.
