Melbourne High School Robotics Trip to St. Louis, Missouri

Discussion

Melbourne High School is requesting School Board approval to participate in the FIRST Robotics World Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 26-May 1, 2011.

Twenty-five (25) students on Team 386 and ten (10) chaperones plan to travel to St. Louis on a Travelynx Charter Bus.  They will leave Melbourne High School at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26.  The group will stay at the Quality Inn Airport in St. Louis.  The FIRST Robotics activities will be held at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis on April 27-30.  The group will depart St. Louis at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, and arrive back at Melbourne High School on Sunday, May 1, at approximately 9:00 p.m.  Three (3) days of school (April 27, 28, and 29) will be missed.

All funding has been acquired through corporate sponsors and fundraising.  There will be no cost to the students and chaperones due to the sponsorships and fundraising.  There is no cost to the District or the school for this event.

Due to time constraints and the field trip being so close to the date of the April School Board meeting this item will only be on the agenda one time. 

 



Recommendation
Approve the Melbourne High School request for students to participate in the FIRST Robotics World Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 26-May 1, 2011.
