Field Trip - McNair Middle School Science Bowl Team - National Competition in Washington, D.C.

Discussion

McNair Middle School's Science Bowl team won the Southeastern Regional Middle School Science Bowl Competition on Saturday, February 26, 2011, and was invited to participate in the National Competition in Washington, D.C. on April 27 - May 2, 2011.  The U.S. Department of Energy will pay for the transportation of the team members:  five students (four males and one female) and the coach, Mrs. Guytri Still.  There will be one additional student coach from Rockledge High School and one additional fingerprinted adult chaperone, Mr. Marshall Still.  The team will travel by air.  The team will be transported to and from the airport and events by the Department of Energy.  They will stay at theNational 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, MD where the competition and events will be held.  There will be no cost for the team and coach.  The expenses for the student coach will be covered by fundraising and the other adult chaperone will pay his own expenses.  THERE WILL BE NO COST TO THE DISTRICT.

Due to time constraints and the field trip being so close to the date of the April School Board meeting this item will only be on the agenda one time. 



Recommendation
Approve the request for McNair Middle School's Science Bowl Team, six (6) students and two (2) adult chaperones to participate in the National Science Bowl Competition in Washington, D.C. on April 27 - May 2, 2011.  The student will miss four (4) days of school.
