ESOL Training for Teachers
At the recommendation of the Florida Department of Education, the district will contract with Pearson Learning to provide research-based training in the Sheltered Instruction Protocol (SIOP) Model for classroom teachers who have English Language Learners in their classes. SIOP is a proven model that includes research-validated components such as lesson preparation, building background, comprehensible input, strategies, and practical application. The contract with Pearson Learning will provide five 3-day workshops for groups of 30 teachers, plus two days of follow-up for each group, for a total of 150 teachers receiving the training. The cost includes consultant fees, travel costs, all materials for participants and the follow-up sessions.
This training will be scheduled upon board approval and will be conducted prior to the end of the school year.
Approve the contract between the district and Pearson Learning to provide five 3-day professional development sessions (SIOP) for teachers of English Language Learners.
