Melbourne High School Robotics Trip to Atlanta, Georgia

Discussion

Melbourne High School is requesting School Board approval to participate in the International FIRST Robotics Competitions in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 14-18, 2010.

Thirty-five (35) students on Team 386 Voltage and eight (8) chaperones plan to travel to Atlanta.  Transportation is being provided by Executive Tours.  They will leave Melbourne High School at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14.  The group will stay at the Quality Inn Downtown Atlanta.  The FIRST Robotics activities will begin at the Georgia Dome on Thursday, April 15, and continue through Saturday, April 17.  The group will depart Atlanta around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, and arrive at Melbourne High School about 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 18.  Three (3) days of school (April 14, 15, and 16) will be missed.

All funding has been acquired through sponsors and fundraising activities.  The cost per person for hotel, bus, and meals is approximately $317.  However, there is no cost to the students or chaperones due to the sponsorships and fundraising.  There is no cost to the District or the school for this event.   



Recommendation
Approve the Melbourne High School request for students to attend the International FIRST Robotics Competitions in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 14-18, 2010.
