Agenda Item #42
Sunsmart E-Shelter Grant Program
The Office of Facility Services is requesting on behalf of the schools designated at hurricane shelters (EHPA) permission to submit grant applications to receive 10 kW photo voltaic array back-up power supply system valued at $100,000 each site. It is estimated 12 schools will submit applications.
The Florida Solar Energy Center is the lead agency to provide photo voltaic systems to schools as part of the Solar for Schools state program. In this cycle, 90 schools across the state classified as shelters will receive the solar systems to provide additional back up power for lights, medical equipment, and communication during a emergency situation. During normal school operations, the system can power computers and classroom equipment in one wing of the school. An element of the project is to provide students with opportunities to learn about photo voltaics and renewable technologies through classroom instruction and practical experiences.
No district or school match is required.
