Field Trip - Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School JROTC Leadership Team to Attend the National Leadership Symposium in Washington, D.C.

Discussion
The Cocoa Beach Junior Senior High School JROTC Leadership Team qualified to attend the National Leadership Symposium in Washington, D.C. on June 25 through June 28, 2010.  One Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior High School JROTC instructor and one female chaperone will accompany four (4) cadets/students.  The team will travel two days in each direction via a Brevard School District van. The cadets/students and chaperones will depart on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 and return on Thursday, July 1, 2010.  Cadets/students will spend each of the two nights while en route to Washington, D.C. at military installations (Fort Bragg on June 23, 2010 and Fort Eustis on June 24, 2010). On their return trip, cadets/students and chaperones will again spend two nights on military installations (Shaw Air Force Base on June 29, 2010 and Charleston Naval Base on June 30, 2010). Cadets/students will be given tours at each military installation, as well as at historical sites along the path of travel.  The cadets/students and chaperones will be given guided tours while at the National Leadership Symposium in Washington, D.C. and will have the opportunity to meet with elected and military officials.  During their stay in Washington, D.C, cadets/students will be transported by charter bus to and from various activities.  Cadets/students will be housed and fed in the George Mason University dormitories and dining facilities.  All expenses will be funded by the Federal Government at no cost to the district.  Since the trip is occurring during the summer break, students will not miss any school days.

Recommendation
Approve the request for the Cocoa Beach Army JROTC Leadership Team and two chaperones to attend the Leadership Symposium in Washington, D.C.
