Palm Bay High School Robotics Trip to Dallas, Texas
Palm Bay High School is requesting School Board approval to participate in the 2010 VEX Robotics Competition World Championship in Dallas, Texas, on April 21-25, 2010. Palm Bay High engineering students participating with VEX Robotics Competitions will compete against the top 300 teams around the world from 2,400 teams spanning 16 countries and all 50 U.S. states.
Twenty (20) students and three (3) adult chaperones plan to fly from Orlando to Dallas on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. The group will stay at the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas. The VEX Robotics Competitions will be held on April 22-24 at the Dallas Convention Center and Arena. The group will return on Sunday, April 25. Three days of school (April 21-23) will be missed.
The students have conducted fundraisers, car washes, and sponsored dances in conjunction with the City of Palm Bay to offset costs. In addition, the program has corporate sponsorships and grants from AT&T, Harris Corporation, and the Able Trust. The cost per student is $703. Students will pay $125 of this cost plus provide funds to cover their individual meals. The remainder of the cost will be paid by the team account. There will be no cost to the District.
Approve the Palm Bay High School request for students to attend the 2010 VEX Robotics Competition World Championship in Dallas, Texas, on April 21-25, 2010.
