2010-11 Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant
The Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008 authorizes funds for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) for all states. FFVP grant funding is available for the period of July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011. One of the criteria is that participating elementary schools must have 50 percent or more of their students eligible for free and reduced-price meals. Funds will be used primarily to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables to be served at no charge to students, while a small percentage of funds may be used for operating and administrative costs incurred for preparing and distribution of the fruits and vegetables. Funding is estimated at $227,250 and this grant does not require a cash match. In order to be considered for this grant, each interested school is required to submit a completed application packet which includes a School Profile, Proposal, and Certification Form to the Florida Department of Education. Due to the time constraint of submittal, the School Board is being asked to approve the grant application for submittal in order to meet the April 1, 2010 deadline. Selection of the schools will be made in mid-April. A copy of the full proposal is available in the Office of Food and Nutrition Services for review.
Request approval to write and submit a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) application packet for the following schools: Cambridge Elementary, Jupiter Elementary, Riviera Elementary, South Lake Elementary and Turner Elementary.
