Agenda Item #33
Reduce Alcohol Abuse Grant Project
The Office of Student Services Safe and Drug Free Program is requesting to write and submit a federal grant, Reduce Alcohol Abuse, to focus on educating 9th grade students about alcohol abuse and its consequences. The federal program suggests using the ALCOHOLEDU curriculum, a SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) model program grounded in evidenced based proven strategies.
SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) will be supported through supplies and training in peer to peer support techniques. The SADD club members will help organize a parent media campaign encouraging parents to "Be the Wall" toward underage drinking.
A project manager will be hired with the grant funds for the term of the project. No District match is required. Funds will support the cost of the AlcoholEDU license, SADD training, conferences, stipends, and materials.
Seek approval to write and submit grant for submission by April 15.
