Agenda Item #51
Consultant Agreement: Clearlake Middle School with Roland Smith
Roland Smith will conduct three (3) presentations and slide shows for the students and staff of Clearlake Middle School about the books he has written and his career as a wildlife biologist. This activity coincides with the school-wide, multi-disciplinary reading project involving activities in all subject areas based on the award winning novels of Roland Smith. The presentation, along with the thematic unit, aligns with Goal 3 of the School Improvement Plan and addresses the school-wide reading action plan to incorporate reading opportunities into all content areas. This activity will encourage students to read independently. The school will print a circulation report from the media center before and after the presentation to determine if students were motivated to read. Before the presentation students will be asked to write an essay on "What It Takes to Write a Book". After the visit, students will write a review of the author's presentation. The written review will be used to measure the effectiveness of the presentation. The activity will be paid for from a DOE Grant, Title I and School Improvement funds.
Approve the agreement in the amount of $2,835.60 with Roland Smith to conduct three (3) presentations for the students and staff of Clearlake Middle School on May 7, 2010.
