Agenda Item #28
Magnet Schools Assistance Grant
The Office of School Choice is requesting to write and submit an application for the 2010 Magnet Schools Assistance program whose purpose is to provide innovative and challenging programing for all students while balancing student demographics. Three elementary schools were selected based on student demographics and academic need. The three schools are Cambridge, Endeavor, and Riviera. Each have agreed to participate in this three year program if awarded.
The Partnership for 21st Century Schools framework will support the individual school themes while incorporating an emphasis on technology, foreign language, and meeting other program requirements. The use of the 21st Century School framework directly supports a District Strategic Plan initiative to develop 21st Century Schools. Individual school teams are currently designing their unique theme structures to meet the submission deadline.
The grant proposed budget may total $6 million over three years. No match from the district is required.
Approval to permit the writing and submission of the Magnet Schools grant by May 3, 2010.
