Agenda Item #26

Title
F-16. AIMS Staff Development Workshop

Discussion

The AIMS (Activities Integrating Math and Science) four day workshop (July 14-17, 2008) for middle school math teachers is custom-designed to meet the professional development needs requested by our middle school math teachers and principals.  The requested content will include integers, linear equations, multiplication the algebra way, proportional reasoning and geometry.  Thirty middle school math teachers will engage in a series of hands-on investigations, discuss classroom management of an activity-oriented math and science program, and learn to integrate AIMS into the current curriculum.  Teachers will receive copies of all activities and the materials (manipulatives, measuring devices and cubes) to support those classroom activities.  This meets objective 2.1.2 in the district Strategic Plan.
