B-1. 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year Recognition
Delilah Narvaez has won this year’s coveted title of Brevard Public Schools Teacher of the Year. Narvaez was presented with the award Thursday evening, Feb. 28, before an audience of nearly 500 people at the Radisson Resort in Cape Canaveral.
Narvaez has been an advanced placement and honors chemistry teacher at West Shore Jr./Sr. High School for five years. Narvaez spent four of her 16 years as an instructor in Misawa, Japan teaching science and mathematics. She was chosen to participate in the Zero-G Microgravity Flight and won the Exemplary Science Teacher Award for Brevard County in 2006. Principal Rick Fleming said, “Ms. Narvaez has such a powerful and lasting effect on students…[She] is the epitome of what every educator aspires to be…she is a very, very special teacher who inspires, motivates and encourages students every single day.”
Narvaez was selected after being interviewed by a selection committee made up of current and former teachers of the year, retired school administrators and community leaders. Eighty-nine teachers were nominated this year. From those nominated, eight finalists were selected.
Other finalists for county Teacher of the Year were: Karl White, Kennedy Middle School; Sheri Snow, Sunrise Elementary School; Richard Regan, Stone Middle School; Ellen Lawrence, Titusville High School; Theresa Langley, Enterprise Elementary School; Beth Cavallaro, Fairglen Elementary School; and Sandra Blass, Suntree Elementary School.
The School Board of Brevard County recognizes the 2007-08 Teacher of the Year, West Shore Jr./Sr. High School's advanced chemistry and AP honors teacher, Mrs. Delilah Narvaez. The Board also recognizes the seven other finalists: Mr. Karl White, Kennedy Middle School; Ms. Sheri Snow, Sunrise Elementary School; Richard Regan, Stone Middle School; Ellen Lawrence, Titusville High School; Theresa Langley, Enterprise Elementary School; Beth Cavallero, Fairglen Elementary School; and Sandra Blass, Suntree Elementary School.
